Linoleum Block Print Artist Statement

Artist Statement:

My goals and intentions in this artwork was to create a print of a horse I rode for two years. I was trying to show my adoration toward the sport and the animals while learning how to use a new medium. I accomplished these goals with trial and error, making a few mistakes along the way with too shallow or too deep of cuts, but in the end I felt much more comfortable with the linoleum. My print was really about the texture. I wanted to create a fun pattern in the back and a hair texture on the horse. What surprised me most while making this piece was the intricacy of the cuts. The most difficult challenge for me was the printing itself, trying to find the right colors was hard for me. I met this challenge by asking my peers for their opinion and help along the way. I learned a lot about texture in this print, and am planning on bringing that into my next drawing/painting as well. I think the hairing on the horse is the best thing on this piece.
